Ginetta Drive It Day

Postby Emms » Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:40 pm

OK,

What reaction would I get if I suggested "Ginetta Heritage Drive It Day"?

Any idea how many "out of production" road going Ginettas are around that might show an interest?

Shall I just shut up now and go back to sleep?

Cheers all

Alan

Nice idea. You are welcome to come here and camp. I can put on a barbi and a bit of a party; barrel of Earl Soham beer, live music etc.

OK.

National Drive It Day is always the nearest Sunday to 23 April, so,

2010 "Drive It Day" will be Sunday 25 April. But we are looking at 2nd May

Before we take Spadge up on his very kind offer lets see how many are interested, (assume two persons per car), a list I think!!!! (tell me by PM and I will edit this list - keeps it in one place).

1. Me & Pat in the G15 starting in Chelmsford.

Cheers

Alan

Alan, If you can find time, please put an explanation of the whole "drive it day" concept on here. Then I'll do a notice on the front page of the website.

ALan Wrote:

"Drive It Day is an initiative set up by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs - an umbrella body representing the classic vehicle movement in the UK - to encourage owners of old or interesting cars, vans, bikes or trucks to take to the road for one day and demonstrate the strength of the historic vehicle movement in the UK.
It campaigns against issues that may affect the right to use historic vehicles on our roads.

Drive It Day is always held on the nearest Sunday to 23 April. This date was chosen in 2005 to commemorate the 64 cars that set off from London on 23 April 1900 on the first day of the Thousand Mile Trial - an incredible undertaking and one which we believe deserves an annual celebration."

The way this worked in the early days was that you just took your classic out for a ride.

Not long after people started organising events based around the concept.

From your angle I would suggest that participants just drive from home in order to arrive at Ginetta Heritage say midday for a factory tour followed by barbi-lunch, refreshments & possibly entertainment, before leaving at a time chosen by them in order to get back home at a sensible time. (Or you can camp and stay over or B&B locally)

No planned route or timing!!!
