In the
eighties Ginetta wanted to return to
complete vehicles. They saw a niche for a small sports car and developed
the G25. It followed the standard Ginetta practice of a steel chassis with GRP
body with the exception that the doors were complete Ford Fiesta items. Ginetta
stayed with Ford components for other parts of the car using the complete Fiesta
dashboard and the engine/transaxle assembly. The difference was that the engine
was moved to a central position. However the Walkletts were not happy with the
G25 and after a few show appearances development was stopped. From the G25 was
developed the Ginetta G32. This went from a fast to notchback design with a much lower
roofline giving a much sleeker appearance. Of course the
Fiesta doors now needed cutting down. This was a busy time for Ginetta as they were in
the process of moving the factory to Scunthorpe and the G32 needed Type
Approval. However, in a
surprise move, the Walkletts sold out to Martin Phaff in 1989. Despite several
company ups and downs the G32 continued into 1993 before production stopped.
Approximately 110 coupes and 20 convertibles were built.
